Catholic Religious Education

The primary educators of the children of Sacred Heart Parish are their parents.  As part of the baptismal rite the parents are instructed that they are the first teachers of their children in the ways of the faith and may they be the best teachers in sharing with their children the ways of the Catholic faith.  To supplement this education at home, children of Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish have the opportunity to be enrolled in the various Catholic educational  programs of Salina.

St. Mary’s Love ‘N Learn Child Care Center

St. Mary’s Love ‘N Learn Child Care Center hopes to provide the vital learning for pre-school age children in an atmosphere of Christian love and concern.  They desire that the children learn of God through the teacher’s example and teaching.  Love ‘N Learn believes that child care should provide opportunities and experiences which stimulate a child’s physical, social, intellectual and emotional development.

The Love ‘N Learn Child Care Center has been in existence since 1989 and is located at 304 East Cloud Street (South of St. Mary, Queen of the Universe Church) Salina.  Telephone 785-827-4822 for more information.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults - R.C.I.A.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process for initiating new members into the Catholic Church by nurturing their conversion in the Christian way of life and belief.  The RCIA intends for the instruction to be more than classroom learning of Catholic dogma.  It is based on the rhythms of the Church’s life of worship, particularly the cycle of Scripture readings used in the Church year, teaching which consists of examination of the Church’s creed, engagement in the life of the whole Christian community, participation in the Catholic community’s prayer and liturgical life, and active involvement in the community’s apostolic life.  RCIA classes begin each year in September and continue through May with those participants deciding to join the Catholic faith being received into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil.  Classes are held on Thursday evenings from 7 PM to 8:30 PM in the Hall of Bishops on the west side of Sacred Heart Cathedral.  For more information contact the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish Offices at 785-823-7221.
